August Creativity from Sue Smyth

Metamorph Canvas and
Banner
By Sue Smyth

This month I am sharing a project that I recently taught in
Tasmania and will again here in Brissie.
I have had a lot of folks who like the "Bug Book" I did
last year, this project uses the same techniques
without the bulky book. So is ideal if
you want a light small project instead.

The solid butterfly is covered in egg shell and painted
with black gesso

Here I have altered a resin rose, it can be any colour
but with a little black gesso and inka gold
metallic colour it suits our theme perfectly.

At each corner there is a bunch of bugs, check out my
how to below.

Here are a few close ups of the bugs for you.

I have added a cute door knob, which has
inka gold metallic paint over it to highlight
the texture.

Step by Step how to

Cover the entire canvas with scrunched up tissue
paper, adhere down with gel medium.

Paint chipboard with black gesso.

Smear solid butterfly with texture paste.

Crack up eggshell and place into texture paste and
allow to dry.

Paint eggshelled butterfly with black gesso and
dry off.

Add corners to frame

Paint some matchboxes.

Spray some muslin with brown dylusions

Paint frame with After midnight dylusions paint.

Then paint with Graphite inka gold and a
fan brush.

Rub on some copper and amethyst inka gold to the
surface too. Then finish with gold metallic paint.

Adhere corners to each side, then frame over
the top of some torn book pages.
Adhere these to matchbox to raise up from the base.

Paint the plastic bug with black gesso.
Then rub over with 2 inka gold colours,
I like to use contrasting ones.
Then rub over the top gold inka gold to
blend both colours together.

Then add all of your elements to your canvas as pictured.

ART Banner

My next project is a banner. I wanted
a creative banner to use on my display
at the Scrapbook and papercraft Expo,
so decided to make one with a rust metal look.

I have used some old large alphabet letters, who knows what
brand they are they were bought back with the Ark lol.
But everything else is pure Imaginarium .

Each letter is embossed twice with Aged gold
embossing powder from Stampendous.

And I have teamed them with assorted Imaginarium
chipboard and metal trinkets.

I have then threaded them onto some leather thonging
and added a small piece of chain to the thong.

Here are some close ups.

for you to

enjoy.

Happy Crafting
