Today I have a tutorial and a Travel Mini Book to share using lots of gorgeous chipboard including some new release!
I wanted to come up with something a little trendy! So I thought I would use some newly released chevrons/arrows and hexagons! Travelling is one of my passion, I love visiting and learning about places, 2 years ago I went back to my country of birth, France, and we went visiting a region called "Alsace" on France's Eastern Border. We had such a great time there, and believe or not, I have never scrapped any of these photos! The mini album was inspired by the photo on the front of my album, this gorgeous doorway. I so so love how everything is old and beautiful over there...
I wanted to recreate this old shabby look on my cover, to keep with my travel theme...
So I will start with my tutorial today:
"Shabby Paint Effect Tutorial"
Gather your supplies:
- Chipboard piece
- Gesso
- Paint - 2 contrasting colours - I used "white" and "Pistachio"
- Heatgun
- Baby wipes
- Craft Knife
1. Cover your chipboard with 2 coats of Gesso.
Let dry completely.
2. Cover with white paint - or with colour you want on the bottom layer - the layer that will not get peeled off. Let dry completely.
3. Cover with your other colour (Pistachio here),
4. Dry using a heatgun, STOP when paint is not
quite dry but has lost its shine.
5. Now take a baby wipe and remove top coat in some areas, you want to create an aged/worn background, use your creative intuition. You can't really go wrong here!
6. Do more peeling with your craft knife - your baby wipes made the top coat nice and wet and your craft knife will easily peel off the paint -
the bottom layer will show beautifully underneath.
You can try this technique on any piece of chipboard, big or small, I really hope you will give this a go, it is easy and very effective!
Now let's have a look at my mini album:
"Travel"
I used "Windows and Shutter in board" as the front and constructed the rest of the album (spine + back) by tracing around the window. Everything is held together with my favourite tool: masking tape. Because everything is going to be painted the masking tape will be disguised (see above tutorial).
The pages of my album are made of watercolour paper. I used "Honeycombe" template for my background which I used with some Green Glimmermist. Very easy to use, you just have to make sure you hold the template firmly in place.
Here are the inside pages. I kept the chipboard raw with some "Walnut Stain" Distress Ink on the edges. I just love the look of raw chipboard, it was perfect with the green and cream colour scheme I chose to work with.
I also created a mini paper bag to match my mini album, I thought it would be a nice way to present my mini album. I used the same techniques and colours as my mini album to decorate it.
